This is the original Tidal Wave commercial from 1977 for Santa Clara and 1978 for Gurnee. The mad German professor is a take-off on Anton Schwarzkopf. The actual ride seen in the commercial is not the Tidal Wave at either Marriott park. Instead footage of the similar White Lightnin' at Carowinds, near Charlotte, North Carolina was used. White Lightnin' opened ahead of the Santa Clara Tidal Wave in 1977. Although the rides were essentially the same, the loop on White Lightnin' had an open lattice support structure, whereas the two Tidal Wave rides had the newer box-beam loop structure.
